Leadership

Haresh Sippy

Chairman and Managing Director

Master entrepreneur and technocrat, Haresh Sippy plays several roles with ease. A pioneer in design technology and fabrication methodology in the field of process equipment manufacturing, mainly Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers, he began his career in the mid-1970s by manufacturing Sampling Bombs for Esso Refinery (now HPCL) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation; a step that resulted in import substitution.

At the invitation of Caltex Refinery, he developed the technology of rolling titanium tubes. The development of Cu-Ni, Ni-Al-Br and Ti metallurgies and Monel Weld deposit on CS tubesheet blanks are a result of his innovating effort.

TEMA India has its origins in Leo Engineering Works, a company he set up in 1975. The enterprise ventured into the manufacture of Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers and associated components. TEMA India was incorporated in 1987 and has since grown to be one of the largest manufacturers of Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers in India with three manufacturing bases close to Mumbai.

Haresh Sippy holds the Indian patent for Shrink Ring technology deployed in the manufacture of Screw Plug (Breech Lock type) Heat Exchangers used in High-Pressure and High-Temperature Oil & Gas applications. Reducing cost apart, the technology enhances safety, reliability and ease of maintenance.

Vice-Chairman of the Heat Transfer Society of India (HTSI) and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), he was invited to present a paper (An Improved Design of Threaded Closures for Screw Plug Heat Exchangers) at the 50th ASME Pressure Vessels & Piping Conference held in Vancouver, Canada in July 2016.

In continuation to it, he presented another paper (Design of Threaded Closures for High-Pressure Screw Plug Heat Exchangers Designed to ASME Section VIII Division 2) at the conference in Hawaii, US in July 2017.

Mentoring engineering students gives him the opportunity to share his knowledge and experience with young minds. From time to time he is invited to address students at Engineering and Management institutes. As head of TEMA India, imparting vocational training and employable skills to the under-privileged is his way of giving back to the community from which the company draws its strength. A deep commitment to the development of indigenous technologies is his mantra for self-reliance and nation-building.

Director

A business leader with a track record of revitalising and consolidating businesses, Chetan Doshi is an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai where he studied Mechanical Engineering.

With over 35 years of hands-on experience in multiple capacities at TEMA India, his meticulousness is best deployed in techno-commercial matters and put to good use as Director-Commercial. In this role, he ensures the smooth flow of funds for the company’s operations. He has been instrumental in raising working capital, enhancing credit limits and introducing systems of financial control. He provides specialist advisory inputs on debt planning in line with the company’s long-term growth strategy.

In an earlier role as Director-Sales & Business Development, he was instrumental in developing a customer base in India, the US, Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Akhil Sippy

Chief Executive Officer

A Structural Engineering graduate of the University of Mumbai, Akhil Sippy started as Project Coordinator and held management positions across several verticals before being appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2023.

As COO, he has spearheaded a major restructuring and expansion of the company. With his exposure to lean manufacturing practices, he was instrumental in setting up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility which can deliver on tight timelines. Under his guidance most of the fabrication processes have been automated. His contribution to the development of the Power segment through partnerships with SPX, Lanco, Skoda and GE-Alstom has made a significant difference to the company’s bottom line.

As Director-Procurement, he streamlined the supply chain process and introduced the concept of Just-In-Time inventory to ensure 100% availability of material for production, with zero stoppage time and reduced inventory costs. He developed a strong vendor base in domestic and global markets and initiated the system of rate contracts with suppliers.

Currently, Akhil Sippy has been assigned the additional responsibility of heading the business development and client retention function as part of TEMA India’s long-term growth and diversification plans. With his relational and negotiation skills, he has enabled the company to penetrate new market segments and geographies such as Southeast Asia, Central Africa and Latin America. He single-handedly opened up the FPSO market by securing the EBR/Petrobras order. The thrust into global markets has seen exports contribute to over half of the company’s turnover.

He is the driving force behind establishing and standardising production norms across TEMA India. These initiatives have resulted in reduced production life cycles and cost, and have enhanced the quality of fabricated equipment.
